We Never think it will be...
We never think it will be...
But treat it like the last.
Christmas.
Put down petty disagreements and harbored bitterness.
Hug your grandmother as if it’s the final gifted time you’ll get to.
Embrace your parents, your siblings as if you never again will feel the warmth of their humanity.
Because friend as terribly blunt as this sounds...
Dead people do no wrong...
And that eye roll, that rude text, that smidge of petty you feel when you “show them” by not showing up for the holidays...
It haunts long after they’re gone...
And I’ve never seen someone take pride in how rude they were to someone in a coffin.
Never have I heard someone rejoice in how much revenge they got over someone on the other side.
No, they’re often just left here...
Left to sit in the pain of forgiveness never given.
So let it go. For the sake of next years peace.
We make holiday decisions selfishly relying upon the fact that we’ll be granted the opportunity again.
The “next year” mentality is tricky thievery that has robbed many of the chance to reconcile.
Next year you’ll make things right with your mother...
I know.
Next year you’ll see your cousin and apologize.
I know.
Next year you’ll go...
Next year you’ll love...
Next year you’ll forgive...
Next year you’ll do what you aren’t big enough to do this year...
But let me pose this question...
What if next year is never offered?
Never experienced...
Never embraced....
Never to come...
Never is solid....rigid...rock hard and set in stone.
Don’t let your anger be.
This Christmas I urge you to live like the one you’re celebrating
...because you never know who’ll be celebrating it face to face with Him instead of you next year.
